Hey Jeet, great to be chatting with you again. For those who may not know, can you tell us a little bit about yourself and Mountbase?
I’m the co-founder and CEO of Mountbase. I started my career working for start-ups and I fell in love with it. I love the energy of start-ups and working with passionate people. I found that start-ups are often at the forefront of real innovation and they do things differently.
So my co-founder and I founded Mountbase to share the real insights of how these exciting brands and businesses work. We’re combining a tech platform with content to bring our viewers engaging and exciting stories.
Mountbase is building a platform that provides access to some of the business world’s brightest minds. What was it that inspired you to launch this idea?
Working in the start-up space, I realised that there are people going through different stages of their business. Being able to share their stories would help other entrepreneurs launch their business or overcome the challenges that they are facing.
We’ve all faced similar problems, and there was no place to hear from people with real experience. We wanted to create a platform, where people could easily access content which helped them. So that’s why we combined a streaming service and media.
When I was younger, I always asked people what they did for a living and it always shocked me that a lot of people didn’t enjoy their jobs. That’s why I wanted to launch a platform where people can be inspired to do something that they love, but also give them actionable advice to help them on their journey.
Prior to Mountbase you worked at several different roles, including a management consultancy. What has been the biggest difference between running a start-up and working at a more traditional, corporate job?
I worked as a real estate broker in Dubai and in a management consultancy out in Dubai as well. The difference is like chalk and cheese between start-ups and the corporate world.
In a start-up there are usually small teams, and you have a direct impact on the business. So it really makes you feel like you’re making a difference. Start-ups tend to have more personal relationships as well, I really get on with my team and I know them on a personal level.
I always felt like a cog in a wheel at my corporate jobs, but in the start-up world everyone is really passionate and driven about what they are doing.
What have been your biggest challenges over the past few years since launching Mountbase, and what have been the key lessons you learnt from them?
COVID-19 was one of the biggest challenges for us. As we’re in the tech space, getting equipment proved to be a challenge. We’re also a company built on relationships, so it was much harder to form and maintain those relationships over zoom.
Working at a startup meant that things change very quickly, so we had to adapt and change our business model to remain competitive.
If you were looking to hire new team members to join Mountbase, what do you think the company’s biggest selling point would be?
Our biggest selling point is our mission and vision. We want to create a world where people enjoy what they do for work. We practice what we preach, so we have created an environment where we want our employees to have fun when they work and feel empowered to make a difference.
Plus we have an unlimited supply of diet coke, which helps.
One last question before we let you go, what’s next on the horizon for Mountbase? Where do you see the company in the next few years?
We’ve just launched our web app, which is available globally. We’re also launching on app stores for phones and tablets in September. We want Mountbase to become the go to place for business content, so we’ve got some amazing content planned. We have already booked out our schedule for 2023, so there’s loads of amazing things on the horizon.
